Congratulations
Dr Coogan
If
you're a regular on these pages you will know that Joy
was an Access student who finished here in 1998. Since
then Joy has gone on to do marvellous things with the
opportunities an Access Certificate gave her.
She
studied for a degree in Psychology at the University
of East London. She liked it so much she ended up working
there as a researcher and lecturer and, recently, gained
her doctorate in Psychology.
This
is a marvellous achievement for someone who once described
herself as an 'ordinary mum of 5 children'.
Be
surprised at what you can achieve at Tower Hamlets College.

CONGRATULATIONS...
 As
the university year comes to an end we have
picked up some news of ex-Access students who have completed their
degrees. Andrea (left) has just gained a degree in Stockbroking
from the City University
Business School, and has obtained a job
in the City of London when he gets back from a well-deserved holiday. Natasha
(right) has also graduated from City University but from their prestigious
School of Nursing, and she is hoping to take up a post soon working
with children. And Jane (centre) has just gained a degree
in Environmental Sciences from Queen Mary College and is hoping
to go into teacher-training in September.
We
all wish them well on what promise to be
rewarding careers. _______________________________________________
Why
choose Tower Hamlets College?
Ask
Nowsar...
|

|
"I
have previously studied at 2 other colleges but did
not have
the
support and backing to complete my courses. I
can say without doubt that I finally made the correct
decision in studying at Tower Hamlets College... The
tutors have brought out the potential and confidence
that I thought I never had".
Nowsar
had been out of education for 13 years. With all
his hard work and dedication, plus the support of the
ACCESS Department staff, he is about to complete his
course and gain a place at the presitigious SOAS, University
of London, to read for a Law degree, starting in
September.

| Hamed
Barik BA(Hons) MA
|
This
is what ACCESS is all about...
Hamed
Barik has shown what can be achieved if you
apply yourself to something you really want. He joined
Tower Hamlets College in September 2001 to start what
was then known as a Pre-Access course: a Level 2 programme
of study that concentrates on the basics of Maths and
English, and helps mature students get back into the
swing of studying again. After gaining credits in that Hamed was
accepted on to the full ACCESS programme to prepare
himself for university, to read for a history degree.
Throughout
2001-02 Hamed proved to be a model student and successfully
completed the ACCESS course with flying colours and
was duly accepted to read for a BA in History at the
prestigious School of Oriental and African Studies, which
is part of the University of London.
After
3 years hard work Hamed was awarded a BA in History
and was immediately accepted to read for a Master's
Degree, from September 2005.
Applying
himself as diligently as ever Hamed completed his studies
last summer and awaited his results... on 30 November
2007 he got confirmation that he was successful in his
post-graduate studies and was awarded an MA in Near
& Middle Eastern Studies with a Merit Classification,
from the Department of Political Science.
This
is an absolutely fantastic achievement and one he should
be very proud of. It does go to show that the lack
of formal qualifications should not hold you back if
you have a desire to study at university and gain a
degree.

| Keep
the success stories coming...
PLEASE,
PLEASE, PLEASE... keep sending in your success stories.
Here are three more of our former students who
have gone on to bigger and better things since deciding
to return to college and go on and get a degree.
Earlyna
Edwards contacted us in November last year to let us
know that she completed her BSc in Computer Information
Studies from Greenwich University and is now setting
up a business that sells gospel music. She left
Arbour Square in July 2004, and graduated last summer,
and appears to be as happy and smiley as she always
was at Arbour Square.
Abdul Malik left us in 2002. He went on to Goldsmiths College
and completed a degree in Applied Social Science, in Youth & Community
& Social Development. He is now employed as a Youth Worker
in Tower Hamlets, is a guest lecturer on the Goldsmiths College
Social Work programme, and is also training to become an NVQ & VRQ
Assessor.
Marie-Therese
Parchment completed her Access to Science course at
Tower Hamlets in 2000 and went on to study Podiatry at UCL.
She is now a fully qualified Podiatrist, working in Newham.
So, if you want your aching feet looked at...! She is now
contemplating returning to study to train as a doctor.
We
wish them all the very best on their future successes.
